Day 3: Pioneering Independence (Everest)

It's only day three but we're moving fast. It was a very productive day for all of us and especially me as we just got to work right away. Most people had problems modeling their whiskey bottle from yesterday's assignment so I was able to get ahead and model an ice cube tray very fast, which felt good. I also brought my own mouse so that along with just having more experience made modeling go by even faster than yesterday.

I quickly started modeling the next object: a nut, one that you screw a bolt into to be more precise. modeling the nut itself was quite easy and I wanted to print it but then I realized, a nut is kind of useless unless it has a bolt to accompany it, so I started making a bolt to go with it. Making the bolt was my first time modeling something without any video assistance and it turned out really good, so I was happy with that but printing both the nut and bolt brought its own challenges.

Once printed, there were no visible defects, but the bolt would not fit into the nut, which was unfortunate, but that's the way it goes with these types of things, you never know how it'll end up. I ended up printing another set where the threaded hole in the nut was slightly larger, but then it was too big. It all turned into a big headache where we were trying to figure out the dimensions of the threading and how we would need to set the parameters of the bolt thread to match it but it wasn't working out, even with help from both Mr. Beradino and Mr. Grisbee.
Because of this, I decided to start working on a more simple individual project. I decided to model my water bottle and make a corresponding cap to it, including as much detail as I could put into it using the skills I've learned. Eventually, I finished the modeling for both and decided to take out the threading for the cap because we were having trouble with the nut and bolt so I thought it would be better to not have to deal with that on my bottle. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, and I still have to modify some things so it'll print easier. Either way, I'm happy with how it's turned out so far and I'm excited to print the piece tomorrow and see my handiwork in-person.
