Day 3: Tests and Redesigns (Ben A.)

Tests and Redesigns

Today was the third day of our 3D Modeling and Printing M-Term. We began the day reviewing the design for the whiskey bottle, and attempting to fix the problems that our peers had encountered. I had a file deletion issue, which caused my whiskey bottle model (albeit unfinished) to disappear, along with my paper clip model. With Mr. Grisbee's help, I was able to recover my paper clip model, but there was an issue with the sketch, so I ended up having to redo my paper clip. When making the paper clip with the dimensions specified in the tutorial, we noticed that the sides of the paper clip were getting stuck together. So, when I remade my design, I altered the dimensions so as to add some space between the sides of the paper clip.

Today, I wanted to create a fully functioning, and usable paper clip. Using my new dimensions, I was able to print a useable, but flimsy paper clip. I altered the thickness from one millimeter to 1.25 millimeters, and printed that copy, which turned out pretty well. While still a little bit flimsy, it performed its basic paper clip tasks well, and I was happy with the result. Unfortunately, I had to leave early today, but I am still overall very happy about the progress that I made today on the paper clip.
