Day 4: Bottle and Ring (Everest)

Today was another day full of productivity and hard-work. I immediately began finalizing my water bottle design and getting all the parts into Ultimaker to eventually print once a printer was not in use. I had to turn the water bottle part into two parts so the handle wouldn't be overhanging, and once I made a screw mechanism for the two parts to screw together once printed, I printed it. I had obviously scaled it down to print, but it still took around 1.25 hours meaning I wouldn't be able to see the final result until after lunch. I was excited to see my hard work in person, but once it was printed I was kind of disappointed because it didn't screw together very well and the cap didn't really fit, which was my error, but It is still unfortunate.

In the meantime, however, I worked on a design for a ring for myself. So far it has come along really well I am just worried about the ring size because I'm not entirely sure what mine is. Despite its simple appearance the design took a majority of the day and required a lot of problem-solving and thinking to achieve. It's still not finished, but the idea is that it's a ridged design with a gem holder on the top, and I plan to create a separate printed "gem" to test out the holder and see how it looks.

Overall, it has been a lot more fun modeling and printing than I thought it would be and I'm glad that I kept an open mind about it. I would obviously rather be on a trip, but doing this stuff isn't really all that bad of an alternative.
