Day 5: I Almost Went Insane, But I Made Progress (Eli Cunningham)

Day 5 felt like a long day but now looking back at it, it felt like a short day. I walked into class around 8:25 and began trimming up the phone case I made yesterday because the supports that were used when we were printing it to make it keep its structure, were still a little stuck onto it. After quite a while of precise cleaning up with the plyers I tried it on my phone again, seeing if it would fit a little better. When I tried it on my phone it fit pretty well, but I was not able to press any of the side buttons. Another kind of big problem was that when I was putting my phone into the case, the case pressed certain buttons and almost turned on SOS mode. But in the end it was pretty cool and I would rather use my real phone case.

The real work I did today was on modeling my 3D wallet. This took up basically the entire day and almost made me go crazy. I started from scratch on a new template only using the dimensions I gathered yesterday. My idea for the wallet was to make a box with rounded edges and with the top and one of the thinner sides missing. Then in the box I would have a holder for each card that would be able to pull/swing out for easy access, these holders would also have a cool rounded wall where the card could be taken out of when pulled out. These holders would rotate out on a hinge sort of thing that would connect each holder and connect to the box for more stability. The last thing I would add is a roof/opening and closing feature so the cards wouldn't be able to fall out.

The modeling and ideas took the entire class for a few reasons. The first was having to come up with ideas that I liked and ideas that would actually work and how they would work if I was going to 3D print them. The second reason is due to me having to re-make/change the dimensions many, many, many, many, times to make something that would actually work. Also, the last reason is just not knowing the perfect tool or remembering how to use every tool or encountering weird mess-ups. Mostly the reason I ran into these last problems is from this being my first project not actually following a tutorial, and having to think what would be the best option. But, it was fun being able to make my own individual thing and get a better understanding of the work. So far I have finished most of the wallet, but I still need to make the opening and closing part and I was thinking of adding some designs also.
